How To Evaluate Sources: Relevancy

Find Web Resources

Why is Relevancy Important?

RELEVANCY- to be of quality or state of being important of the matter at hand or appropriate.

  • Who is the intended audience?
  • Is the information at an appropriate level (i.e. not too elementary or advanced for your needs)?
  • Have you looked at a variety of sources before determining this is one you will use?
  • Is the site reporting original research? Is the research clearly identified? Are there search methods identified?
  • Is the information a compilation or analysis of previously published information?
  • Does the information relate to your topic or answer your question?
  • Would you be comfortable using this source for a research paper?
